Oh boy this is a big day. First day of school for Jessica, but this time as the teacher. I need to find that first, first day of school for her--back in 1991 at Salem Lutheran Preschool and add it to this post.

8.17.10

Happy Anniversary!! I had to work so we went to Carlos O'Kelly's afterwards for dessert--fried ice cream that looks prettier that it really was. But the margaritas were good!

8.16.10

It has been a good year for the Black-eyed Susans.

The one and only bill I'm HAPPY to get. The last payment on the bug!! This is a good feeling.

8.9.10

This card began all because of the mini-clothespins. And I can't get enough of distress inks over white embossing.

Jess and I went to the Riverfront market today for the first time. I picked up these amazing sunflowers from one of the local vendors.

8.7.10

Outside Emak & Bolio's ice cream store in the Heights. It's like a little alleyway next to the restaurant and it's painted a beautiful shade of yellow.

8.6.10

So I'm reading a book called On Folly Beach by Karen White. I chose it because it's where we went last summer and the first place I ever saw the ocean. In it, one of the characters makes bottle trees, a Southern tradition. I had never seen or heard of such a thing but googled it and found out that they believed that evil spirits would get trapped in the bottles, so a bottle tree offered safety for the owners. Interesting.
I drive out to Ludi's one day at lunch to get a gift certificate and there, across the street, in the yard of the antique shop is this bottle tree. I couldn't believe it! It really was beautiful. A local guy makes them.

7.26.10

We stopped in Le Claire, IA, home of American Pickers but the shop was closed. We were not the only ones out front taking pictures though.

I saw this in front of Great Harvest Bread Co. & thought it was so cool--a trash can for goodness sakes? Look how that thing is growing! Amazing.

7.19.10

Jess working on a new project--this time a necklace.

7.18.10

Happy Birthday Scott!
We had dinner at Ludi's and then dessert at the house. He wanted strawberry shortcake with angel food cake and whipped cream in the spray can--not Cool Whip!!

7.17.10

Scott made this beautiful fruit pizza to take to his family reunion and it was a big hit. Here's the recipe:
1 pkg. sugar cookie dough
1 pkg. 8 oz. cream cheese
1/3 C. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Bake dough at 375 for 12 minutes
Combine cream cheese, sugar & vanilla. Spread onto cooled cooke dough. Arrange assorted fruit in a pretty pattern.

We don't know what these are but we found them out at Jubilee State Park. It's part of a wildflower restoration project they have out there.
